On the riverfront in Dieppe Gardens stands the Service Personnel Monument, sponsored by the Windsor Chapter of the Remembrance Association Silver Cross Women of Canada.
Its bronze plaque reads: "In memory of the service personnel of World Wars I, II, Korea and Peacekeeping from Windsor and Essex County who gave their today for our tomorrow."
Repairs over the years
The monument has needed care over the years. The Air Force Club in Windsor replaced its base in 1962 because of deterioration. The memorial also had to be refaced because of vandalism, work paid for by the Windsor Veterans Memorial Service Committee. The monument was re-dedicated in 1997.
The City of Windsor lists the monument as granite, metal and bronze, about 300 by 150 by 62 centimetres.
Visit
Dieppe Gardens is at 70 Riverside Drive West, on the riverfront downtown. The plaque is worth a stop this week.
