If you need immediate medical attention in Windsor-Essex, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department. That is the advice from both Health811 and Windsor Regional Hospital.

Windsor Regional Hospital runs emergency departments at both of its campuses, and both are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Met Campus emergency department is at 1995 Lens Avenue. The Ouellette Campus emergency department is at 1030 Ouellette Avenue, with access from Goyeau Street. The hospital switchboard is 519-254-5577.

In the southern part of the county, Erie Shores HealthCare's emergency department in Leamington is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is at 194 Talbot Street West. The hospital's emergency number is 519-326-2373.

People are not seen in the order they arrive. Both hospitals say those with the most urgent needs are seen first. Bring your health card if you can, along with a list of medications and known allergies.

If your concern is not an emergency, or you are not sure where to go, call Health811 at 811 (TTY 711). Health811 is a free, secure and confidential Ontario service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can speak with a registered nurse, get help finding local health services, or use the live chat on the Health811 website.

Windsor Regional Hospital says urgent care centres are for illnesses and injuries that are not emergencies, and that 911 will be called if someone arrives there with a medical emergency. Walk-in clinic hours vary. Call 811 to find a clinic that is open.

This is a directory of official services, not medical advice. If you think you need emergency care, call 911.

Where to get help

If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, Health811 says to call 988, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare publishes a 24-hour mental health and addictions crisis line at 519-973-4435.

For suspected poisoning, Health811 points to the Ontario Poison Centre at 1-800-268-9017.
