Our standards
How Windsor News reports, checks and corrects the news. For the people, For the city.
Who we are
Windsor News is an independent local news site for Windsor-Essex. It is published by Fenrir Productions. The editor is Kyle L. Stewart, who approves every story before it is published and is accountable for it. We are not affiliated with any candidate, party, government or other news outlet.
The two-source rule
Every factual claim needs two independent sources, or one primary record (for example council minutes, a budget document, a court record or an official statement) that we link. If we cannot confirm a figure or claim that way, we leave it out or say clearly who said it and that we could not confirm it. Campaign promises are labelled as promises, not City policy.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it, add a dated note to the story saying what changed, and list it on our corrections page. To report an error, email windsornewsdesk@gmail.com with the link and what you think is wrong.
Independence and advertising
Advertisers never decide or change what we cover or how we cover it. Ads avoid political wording. Editorial decisions are made by the editor alone.
Anonymous sources and tips
We name our sources whenever we can. We grant anonymity only when a source could face real harm, such as losing a job or facing threats, and only for information we can confirm another way. We tell readers why a source is not named. We protect the identity of people who send tips and do not publish private details about them. Tips can be sent to windsornewsdesk@gmail.com; see how to send a tip.
Conflicts of interest
We do not cover stories involving the editor's own family or the editor's own legal matters. If a story touches a group or person the editor has a connection with, we say so in the story or leave the story to others.
How we use AI tools
Research, drafting and production at Windsor News are assisted by AI tools. A human editor reviews and approves every story, checks the facts against the sources, and is accountable for what we publish. AI tools do not decide what we cover.
