Still tapping an old Transit Windsor Smart card? Current smart cards will continue to be accepted until December 31, 2026. Beginning January 1, 2027, riders must use the Umo Mobility app, a reloadable Umo card, or exact cash fare.
What happens to the rides left on your card
Balances on current smart cards cannot be transferred to a Umo card or Umo account. The City's Umo FAQ tells riders to use any remaining passes, rides, or stored value by December 31, 2026, and to reload in smaller amounts as the switch gets closer. Transit Windsor launched Umo on Oct. 5, 2026.
Getting a Umo card
New Umo cards cost $6.00, but during the transition you can trade in your Smart card for a Umo card for free. Cards are sold at the Windsor International Transit Terminal, 300 Chatham Street West. You can also use the free Umo Mobility app and scan a QR code on your phone at the bus validator.
Cash still works. The cash fare is $3.95 with a two-hour transfer, and it is exact fare only, because operators cannot make change. Debit and credit cards cannot be used on the bus.
Remembrance Day rides
Anyone in a military uniform may ride Transit Windsor for free on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11.
