Windsor Police said the new schedule follows a strategic review of front counter visits and peak service times. The Service said the change will better match staffing to front counter demand and make more officers available for frontline duties, including responding to calls.
What changes on Nov. 2
Windsor Police headquarters at 150 Goyeau St. will be open to the public Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., including statutory holidays. That replaces the current public access hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
Services under review
Windsor Police said it is also reviewing how in-person Information Services are delivered at headquarters. That office handles police record checks, occurrence confirmations, report copies, fingerprinting and other records requests. The review will look at demand, community needs and what other Ontario police services do. The release does not say when the review will finish.
More online reporting
The Service is creating a dedicated Online Reporting Unit, staffed by sworn members, to review and process eligible crime reports filed through its online portal. Windsor Police said the goal is to reduce demand on frontline officers so they can focus on calls that need an in-person response.
"We're providing more ways for residents to access services online, while ensuring those who need in-person assistance can still receive it," Police Chief Jason Crowley said in the release.
What to do
Emergency police services remain available 24 hours a day, seven days a week: call 911. For non-emergencies, Windsor Police asks residents to first check whether their matter can be reported online at windsorpolice.ca/services/reporting/online before calling the non-emergency line.
