LaSalle Police say a search of an Oakridge Street home after Tuesday's standoff turned up eight firearms, including a .50-calibre sniper rifle. A 58-year-old LaSalle man now faces 11 more charges. The charges have not been proven in court.

What police say happened

LaSalle Police say they responded at about 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 20 to information that a man had threatened to kill another person. Officers found the man at his home on Oakridge Street, and he refused to come out.

Police say officers learned through their investigation that the man might have access to firearms, so more resources were sent, including the OPP Emergency Response Team. At about 6:33 p.m., he surrendered without further incident. He was arrested and charged with uttering threats to cause death.

The search

On Wednesday, police say they executed a search warrant at the home. They report finding eight firearms, including a .50-calibre sniper rifle, handguns and shotguns. They also report two crossbows, two recurve bows, two pellet guns and an assortment of ammunition.

The new charges

The man now faces an additional four counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of a prohibited device and five counts of careless storage of a firearm. Those are in addition to the original charge of uttering threats to cause death.

Police say he is being held in custody pending a bail hearing. None of the charges has been proven in court.
