Windsor Police say collisions causing injuries are up sharply this year in the two communities the service patrols.

The numbers

In an Oct. 9 post, the Windsor Police Service said more than 5,500 motor vehicle collisions have been reported in Windsor and Amherstburg so far in 2026. Of those, 910 resulted in injuries, a 45.8 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2025. The collisions also resulted in nine deaths, including four in the previous 11 days. The police graphic says the statistics cover Jan. 1 to Oct. 8, 2026.

The five intersections

Police said these intersections have recorded the most collisions to date this year:

Banwell Road and the E.C. Row Expressway

Ouellette Avenue and Tecumseh Road

Lauzon Parkway and Tecumseh Road East

Dougall Avenue and the E.C. Row Expressway

The E.C. Row Expressway and Walker Road

What police are asking

The service reminded drivers to stay alert, obey posted speed limits, avoid distractions and allow enough time to react to changing traffic. A Windsor Police spokesperson told AM800 News that pedestrians should use crosswalks, keep their heads up, make sure a driver has seen them before crossing and wear reflective clothing at night, and that drivers should expect to see pedestrians at all times.
