Council to decide on heritage designation for the former CKLW and CBC building

Report C 88/2026 recommends Council not withdraw its notice to designate 825 Riverside Drive West. Council must decide by Oct. 7.

City Council's agenda for Monday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. (report C 88/2026) includes a Notice of Objection to designating 825 Riverside Drive West, the 1954 CKLW and CBC (CBET) broadcast building, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act.

Administration recommends Council receive the objection from Clayland Developments Inc., decide not to withdraw the Notice of Intention to Designate, approve a revised Statement of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest, and pass the designation by-law. The property has been listed on the Municipal Heritage Register since 2010.

Under the Ontario Heritage Act, Council must decide by Oct. 7, 2026, 90 days after the objection period ended July 9. Designation would not rescind Planning Act approvals already granted for redevelopment, according to the report.
